Basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)

Providing economic security for your family if you pass away, become disabled, or experience an injury or illness is a major consideration in personal financial planning. You are provided with $100,000 of Basic Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage, through Blue Cross Blue Shield, at no cost to you.

Remember to enter or update your beneficiary designation in Workday.

Supplemental Life and AD&D

Supplemental Life and AD&D offer additional coverage for yourself. If you buy voluntary Life, you may also buy coverage for your spouse/domestic partner and child(ren).

  • Employee: $10,000 increments up to $500,000. Guaranteed issue for new hires is $150,000.
  • Spouse/Domestic Partner: $5,000 increments up to $250,000 (cannot exceed 50% of employee amount). Guaranteed issue is $50,000.
  • Children (birth to age 26): $10,000.

Please note, Evidence of Insurability (EOI) will be required outside of the initial enrollment period and if your election exceeds the guaranteed issue amount.

Group Term Life Age Reduction Schedule

Benefits reduce by 35% of the original amount at age 65 and further reduce by 50% of the original amount at age 70. Benefits terminate at retirement.

Short-Term Disability (STD)

An injury or illness could strike at any time and leave you unable to work. To protect you and your family financially in the event of a short-term injury or illness, alliant provides Short-Term Disability (STD) coverage, through Principal, at no cost to eligible employees.

The STD plan provides up to 60% of your weekly salary, to a maximum amount for up to 12 weeks of disability (after a seven-day waiting period).

Long-Term Disability (LTD)

Long-Term Disability (LTD) coverage is important because anyone at any age may become injured or ill for an extended period of time. LTD protects you from loss of income in the event you are unable to work due to an illness, injury, or accident for a period of time that exceeds the short-term disability benefit. You are automatically covered under the Principal LTD plan at no cost to you.

LTD coverage replaces up to 60% of your base salary to a monthly maximum amount if you are disabled for more than 90 days and are unable to work. Benefits may continue to age 65 or normal retirement age defined by Social Security. LTD benefits are offset by other sources of income, such as Social Security and workers’ compensation.
